June Newsletter
Catching a few cool days after the start of a North Carolina summer is truly magical. One glorious morning, you step outside and - surprise! - it's actually cool. Even mosquitoes seem to have taken a day off. Or half a day.
Before delving into our June calendar, we want to extend a warm invitation to our Art & Apéro this evening at 5 pm. It's a splendid chance to mingle with fellow Francophiles and immerse yourself in Emily Lees' captivating ceramics and paintings.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in our 2024 Photo Contest. The results will be announced on Sunday, June 2nd. Stay tuned for the exciting news!
As we ease into the low season at the Alliance, some of our clubs will be taking breaks. The Ukulele Club will pause in June, the Book Club in July, and the Walk in French group will enjoy the whole summer off. But fret not; we still have plenty of engaging activities lined up.
If you're a history enthusiast, you won't want to miss D-Day and the Soul of France, an online talk with writer Roger Mummert, marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Join Mummert on June 5th, 6pm, as he brings to life the dramatic events of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, weaving together riveting American and French narratives. Part of the dynamic "French-American Histories, One Story, Two Narratives" series, this virtual event is presented by the Villa Albertine in collaboration with the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA.
On June 27th, Docent Diane Beckman will take us for a guided tour of the special exhibition: Native American Indian Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The tour is in French. A gem not to be missed!
Here's to wishing you a summer as delightful as a leisurely afternoon spent sipping wine at a Parisian café, enjoying a picnic in a lavender field in Provence, or lounging in a hammock under the shade of a Carolinian oak tree!
