The TEF provides confirmation of one’s level of competency in French in any professional, academic or mobility-related context.
Based on your goals, you will select one of these TEF tests:
TEF Etudes — To study in France; to certify your level of French for work
TEF Canada — To emigrate to Canada or for Canadian citizenship
TEFAQ — To emigrate to Quebec
Each version of the TEF consists of 4 or 5 of the following sections. Except for the Oral Expression, all sections are on computer.
Oral comprehension (CO)
Written comprehension (CE)
Oral Expression (EO)
Written Expression (EE)
Vocabulary and syntax (LS)
Sessions are scheduled every Thursday between 10am and 5pm.
When signing up, please indicate your preferred date - should be a Thursday. We will confirm your session date by email.
If the session on your preferred date is full, we will offer the next closest date.
Most of the time, we have openings within 2 to 4 weeks of registering.
$300 (basic) - $360 (+oral)
The TEF grades candidates using a scale of 7 levels that range from 0+ level (basic skills) to level 6 (complete control).
A digital certificate of results, valid for 2 years, is issued for the applicant and shows the scores on each section of the test.
The certificate is emailed directly to the applicant within 3 to 5 weeks of the applicant's session.
Candidates may take the test as many times as they want. However, a two-month waiting period is required between two sessions.
