"A Stroll in Normandy"
Exhibition
The Alliance Française of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill is pleased to welcome the exhibition "Balade dans la Normandie du XIXème siècle."
This exceptional collection of drawings depicts scenes of everyday life in 19th century Normandy, as well as local landmarks and rural landscapes, stretching from Granville to Avranche in the "Manche" region.
This set of plates, each bearing a date and a place name, originally constituted 3 notebooks.
In 1996, 3 notebooks containing 139 unpublished drawings were discovered in a forgotten trunk. The first notebook includes scenes sketched between 1845 and 1848, the second notebook brings together drawings from 1873 to 1876 and the third presents studies in Indian ink and includes characters, seascapes, beach scenes and farm animals.
