How do you pronounce the French word août?
Good question. Most French speakers pronounce it something like "oot", as if someone started to say "boot" and decided the b was just showing off. But travel around France, and you'll discover that in some regions you'll hear it pronounced more like "ah-oot," with a gentle h sound that somehow sneaks into a word with no h at all. French likes to keep us guessing.

We're also adding a few special treats to the calendar. On August 7, we'll offer our very first Guided Tour in French at the Nasher Museum, exploring its contemporary collection. Later in the month, celebrate the season with a Watercolor Workshop with instructor Lynda Chambers (August 22), and then close out August in style on August 29 with a night of Gypsy Jazz. By popular demand, the Onyx Club Boys and singer Sophie Del-Pra return for another night of irresistible rhythms, French and English tunes, and Parisian flair.
