Frequently Asked Questions

How can I sign up for a group class?

Step 1 — Take the Placement Test (if not a beginner)
  • Not a beginner? Start with the Placement Test.
  • You’ll get your results by email within 48 hours, with a link to available classes at your level.

Step 2 — Choose Your Class

  • Beginners: skip the test and go directly to the Group Classes page.
  • Returning learners: select the class recommended for your level and click “Sign Up.”

Step 3 — Complete Registration

  • If you’re not already a member, you’ll be prompted to purchase a membership.
  • If a textbook is required, it will appear as “recommended.” You can order from us or buy from any retailer.

Why do I have to use PayPal to pay for class?

The PayPal app on our website serves as a standard, secure payment gateway: it accepts all major debit and credit cards, and a PayPal account is not required. We have explored unbranded payment options, but the cost is significant for a small nonprofit. Many of these alternatives are, in fact, PayPal products operating under different names.

How many students are in a class?

  • Classes are designed for a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 10 students.
  • If the minimum of 4 students is not reached 8 days before the start date, the class may be canceled. In that case, you will be offered alternatives or a refund.
  • If the class you want is full, you can join the waiting list.

What if the level I was placed at doesn’t feel right?

If your initial placement doesn’t feel like the right fit, you may try another level. Simply talk to your teacher about switching to a different class.

How can I make up for a missed class?

All online classes are recorded and posted in your Student Portal.

  • You can watch the recording of any class you missed.
  • Recordings remain available for 10 days after each class.

What about homework?

  • You don’t need to prepare anything ahead of class.
  • It is recommended that you review the previous session’s material between classes.
  • Your teacher may also give assignments. These are optional - we understand that not all students have time for extensive homework.  Assignments are posted in your Student Portal.

Will I get tested at the end of the course?

No, testing is only offered at the completion of a full level (e.g., A1, A2, B1, or B2). However, upon request, we are happy to provide a certificate of attendance for any course you have completed, regardless of the level.

Do you offer any "fast-track" options?

Our group courses run for 10 weeks, with core classes meeting twice a week for a total of 20 hours. To boost your progress, you can also add conversation classes (10 - 15 hours depending on your level) and specialized workshops. While we don’t offer a formal “fast-track” program, many students create their own accelerated path by combining classes - allowing them to build confidence and move up levels more quickly.
