French version here

Dear members of the Alliance française,

We have a great announcement to make: our Alliance Française has recently been approved by the French, Canadian, and Quebecois governmental authorities to offer the TCF (Test des Connaissances du Français). We now are the only licensed center in both North and South Carolina, as well as in Virginia.

If you need to take a test to show your knowledge of French for immigration or naturalization purposes, or to be admitted to a school or join a company, you are now able to take this test locally.

We are very proud of this new license granted to our Alliance, made possible by the great expansion of our French classes. Several months ago, we were officially recognized as an “examination center” by several French universities and schools. This new certification is a great achievement for us.

Something else to be proud of: the Alliance library is from now operational. It offers classical and contemporary literature, historical books and novels, mysteries, comic books… Thanks to the hard work of several dedicated volunteer members, the hundreds of books piled up or scattered around are now neatly on the shelves, organized by genre, author, and age group appropriateness (“adult” or “youth”). We run this library jointly with L’Ecole housed in the Maison de France.

The grand opening of the library will take place on May 30th at 6:30 pm, as a “potluck style” gathering. It will be an opportunity to thank and celebrate those who contributed to this collective effort, as well as to familiarize yourself with the library. Please bring good things to eat and drink, but also a bag to take some books home.

What else is new this coming month?

An exceptional Apero’Singalong on Thursday May 23rd: the singer, poet , and musician Sol’e le Jazzy Rapper will join our weekly singing group. As he himself put it, no heavy chains around his neck or cap worn backwards, just some jazz ,some soul, some funk, and some blues.

Come and join in!  The event is free and open to all.  Meet at 6:30 pm at L’Ecole.
