Newsletter December 2018

December 1, 2018

French version here

Dear Members of the Alliance Française,

Many of you will likely be busy in the upcoming weeks, with many parties and meetings preceding the holiday season. Which is why we’ve planned only a light schedule for the last month of the year. Still, we’ve got two exciting events planned that you should note… in addition of course to our usual scheduled meet-ups.

  • We still have a few spots open for our Wine Tasting Workshop, on Monday December 3rd. This conversation class will be led by an expert in foods and wines from around the world. An incredible opportunity to enrich your vocabulary and your oenology (the science of wine) knowledge, so you can

impress your friends and decipher the wine list at restaurants…

  • The Cercle de convivialité scheduled for December 9th from 4pm to 7pm, will serve as the Holiday Spirit of the Alliance. It will be a “Cercle Spécial Noël”. Our friend Mary-Benton and her husband will host the monthly potluck. To keep the party jolly, please bring a holiday dish or dessert, and of course wine or other beverage you prefer. Don’t forget to sign up on the website, where you’ll find the location.

Before we get to our recurring monthly events summary, you might want to put in your calendar the following two events scheduled for January:

  • The French writer-journalist Géraldine Smith will be presenting her latest book « Vu en Amérique, bientôt en France » (Seen in America, Soon in France), just released this past October, on January 17th at 6:30pm, at the Alliance française.

  • The conversation workshop on “argot” (slang, informal and spoken French), announced in our last newsletter, is scheduled for January 23rd at 6:30pm. It is intended for advanced French speakers. If we receive a lot of interest in this workshop, the Alliance will consider hosting a full, multi-lesson class on the topic.

Finally, with Christmas approaching, we would like to remind you that this is the season for gift giving… and for financial contributions to non-profit organizations before the end of the fiscal year. We need your support to make our events, exhibits and performances possible. Don’t forget to donate to your Alliance française, it will be tax deductible !

By the way, would any one of our members be interested in overseeing our Club de lecture? Joël, who ran it wonderfully until now, no longer has the time to dedicate to the group. If you might be interested in this responsibility, please contact us.

Here is a quick reminder of the regular Alliance activities in November, the details of which can be found on the website:

Thank you everyone. The Alliance team wishes you all a happy holiday season!
