The sun is warming, birds are chirping, the garden is growing. Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day and Memorial Weekend are just around the corner. What is there not to love about the month of May? Granted, we could do without Root Canal Awareness Week (May 4-11.) Thankfully, we will have Dance Like a Chicken Day to recover from it (May 14.) If you are addicted to the Hokey Pokey, it's time to turn yourself around. This month at the Alliance, our Tour de la Francophonie is taking us to beautiful Haiti. Described in French literature as the "Jewel of the Caribbean," Haiti melds French, African and Caribbean cultures into something truly unique. Yet it also resists easy definition. In his presentation "Haiti: A Misunderstood Nation," Lionel Dorismond will offer new perspectives on his home country. We will dive deeper into Haiti's culture with Bain de Lune by author Yanick Lahens at Club de Lecture, and Mon Pays: Haiti with local community member Myriam Augustin.
