December Newsletter

Hello AF Members!

Happy Day After Thanksgiving! While some of us didn't grow up with this tradition, we all can appreciate this holiday that celebrates family and friends and offers a moment to reflect upon all the good things in life. Here is what we have planned for you this month at the Alliance:

  • Tuesday 3 December, 10:30am: The Welcome Café welcomes anyone interested in some casual French conversation around a cup of coffee or tea. At the Alliance.

  • Sunday 8 December, 2pm: We will meet at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville for our monthly Hike in French - weather permitting. We will attempt the 6-mile loop around the lake and take the time to check out the remains of a 19th-century farm on the way. Register here.

  • Saturday 14 December, 2pm: Cathy Monnet will teach us how to prepare a variety of French inspired holiday treats. If there are any left the next day, we will bring them to the Holiday Party - see below. You can't go wrong by signing up for this Easy Cuisine workshop. Register here.

  • Sunday 15 December, 2pm: All members are invited to our Holiday Party! +1's are welcome too, if they don't mind an afternoon of French immersion . This is a potluck event, full with music and cheers! You'll receive the address in North Raleigh when you sign up here.

  • Wednesday 18 December, 7:15pm: Ciné-Club features Supercondriaque, a funny comedy written and directed by actor-comic Dany Boon. Jeff Dermott will host the event on at his home theater in Cary. Free, for members only. Register here.

  • Thursday 19 December 10:00am: No need to read a whole book in French this month at Club de Lecture; we'll talk.... poetry! Participants are invited to share a French poem of their choice. Hint: you could write your own poem the day before. No registration required.

The last Apéro'Sing of the year will take place on Thursday 12 December, and the last Yoga class on Friday 13 December. Note: both are on your side when it comes to managing seasonal stress and extra calories.... For those of you interested in French classes, enrollment for the Winter Program starting in January is now open. Click here for details about levels, days and times in both Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Happy Holidays to all! Remember to mail your packages early so the post office can loose them in time for Christmas! The Alliance team.
