L’ Allliance Française de Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill is a non-profit organization; enrollment requires membership.  The membership is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.

Placement tests

A free, online Placement Test is required for all prospective students who have had some exposure to French.

Minimums and Cancellation 

Classes that do not get a minimum of 3 students may be canceled at least 3 business days prior to starting date.  If you registered in a class that gets canceled, we will notify you and offer alternative classes if possible, or a refund if you prefer.


Payment is due at registration:  check, online payment.


AF Raleigh uses recordings as a tool for students to make up for missed classes or review class content.  We take learners' and teachers' privacy seriously and never share class recordings (or any of our members’ personally identifying information) outside the Alliance for marketing purposes or for any other reason, without your explicit consent.  Recordings of classes are available to students of your group only.  

Withdrawals and Tuition Refunds Policy 
  • Withdrawal before class starts : Withdrawals made at least five days prior to first class are refunded at 100%. If less than five days, withdrawals are refunded at 90%.

  • Withdrawal after class starts : 

General classes : After first class, prior to second: 70% refund.  After second class, prior to third: 50% refund. After third class, no refund will be issued.

Specialty/Conversation classes : Students who wish to cancel a class must notify their teachers at least 24 hours in advance, or payment will be applied.

  • Missed Classes : Refunds will not be granted for missed classes. Students should contact teachers via email to obtain missed work.

Private Lessons

A minimum package of 6 hours must be purchased at a time. Once purchased, private lessons must be used within a 3 month period. For a cancelation or a date change, the teacher must be notified at least 24 hours in advance, or payment will be applied. 


We may occasionally use a substitute teacher if the regular teacher is unable to teach a class.

When registering for a class, students accept the above policies.
