There is no class on Thanksgiving week
1- If you have had some exposure to French, please take our free Placement Test first. We will get back to you within 48 hours to discuss your best class options. If you have never taken French before, your level is A1.1 (M or T), True Beginner - no need to take the Placement Test.
2- Once you know your level, check the schedule for General Classes, Conversation Classes, Lire et Parler, and Specialty Classes below for days and times. Please note your Class Code; you'll need it when you sign up.
3- To sign up for a Group Class click on Class Registration. You will be able to pay for the class and the textbook (when needed) online using a credit or debit card. Alternatively, you can mail your registration form and check to Alliance Française, attn: Class Registration, 6320 Pleasant Pines Drive, Raleigh, NC 27613.
4- Current membership is required from all adult students - it is optional for students under 18. Click on Membership to sign up.

What do class codes mean?
General classes in Alliance Française chapters around the world follow the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
The CEFRL sets language competency levels as follows.
A1 = Beginner
A2 = Elementary
B1 = Intermediate
B2 = Independent
C1 = Advanced
C2 = Proficient
Click HERE for a detailed description of the levels.
Within each level, you will find sub-levels. For example, within level A1, you will find A1.1, A1.2, A1.3 etc... indicating how far along each class has gone within level A1.
Classes change levels from program to program. However class days and times usually stay the same throughout the year and from level to level.
If you're currently enrolled in a class, your class is likely to resume on the same days and times in the next course. Only the class code will change so as to reflect your group's progress. For example, if you're currently enrolled in class A1.1, you'll be moving on to A1.2, same days, same time.
You will need about 100 hours to complete the A1 level, 100 additional hours to complete the A2 level, and additional 180 hours to complete each of the B1, B2, and C levels.
