What is the TCF?

Test de Connaissance du Français is a French language proficiency test for non-native French speakers who wish to assess and certify their level of proficiency for professional, academic, or personal reasons.  This certification was designed by the Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques or CIEP and authorized by the French Ministry of Education.  The certificate awarded will be valid for 2 years.

This test grades and ranks candidates at one of the six levels on a scale determined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

  • A - Basic user

    • A1 (Beginner)

    • A2 (Elementary)

  • B - Independent user

    • B1 (Intermediate)

    • B2 (Upper intermediate)

  • C - Proficient user

    • C1 (Advanced)

    • C2 (Proficiency)​

There are 5 types of TCF exam - click on each test for description and pricing information.

1) TCF TP = Tout Public – for personal, academic or professional reasons,

2) TCF DAP = Demande d'Admisssion Préalable - for study in France especially as a first-year undergraduate (license 1), 

3) TCF ANF = Acquisition de la Nationalité Française - for French citizenship,

4) TCF Canada - for permanent residence in Canada,

5) TCF Quebec - for permanent residence in Québec province in Canada.

Tests ON PAPER - scheduled between 10am and 2pm

Tuesday 21 January                  Registration deadline: December 20th, 2019.

Monday 24 February               Registration deadline: January 20th, 2020.

Wednesday 25 March             Registration deadline: February 20th, 2020.

Tuesday 21 April                        Registration deadline: March 20th, 2020.
