This fall is set to be the wettest on record for our region. While Raleigh has mostly avoided the worst, Western North Carolina and nearby states are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Let’s keep their communities in our thoughts and think about how we can help with recovery efforts.
On a brighter note, the Alliance is kicking off the month with its inaugural Pétanque Contest on 10/05! Fingers crossed that the pétanque courts don’t turn into fishing ponds by then. We’re gearing up for a day filled with friendly competition and just the right amount of chaos. We can’t wait to see everyone come together, bonding over some serious skill - and some not-so-serious mishaps.
Rain means mushrooms and mushrooms inspire a world of culinary delights! On 10/09, Chef Florence will share some of her favorite recipes featuring these flavorful gifts from Mother Earth. We’ll even have a bit of fun debunking some common mushroom myths; because no, you can’t just toss them into a dish and hope for the best!
On 10/10, we'll join docent Diane Beckman at the North Carolina Museum of Arts for an exploration of the color red and its rich symbolism throughout history and culture. This immersive experience will take you on a journey through time, revealing how red has served as a powerful emblem in various societies, representing everything from love and passion to war and sacrifice. Don’t miss this chance to see red in a whole new light!
